Marion County Youth Violence Prevention Coalition & Marion County Commission on Youth

The Marion County Youth Violence Prevention Coalition has received $89,700.00 to assist in outreach and education to reduce youth violence within Indianapolis.

The Marion County Youth Violence Prevention Coalition (MCYVPC) has existed since 2015 with a mission to convene community stakeholders, conduct research, provide leadership, and empower people to create opportunities that build more peaceful homes, schools, neighborhoods, and workplaces. The coalition activates community partners to prevent youth violence in Indianapolis through two strategic initiatives: (1) advocate for system-level change, and (2) champion direct support for youth and families. The coalition is made up of 50+ individuals, consisting of community members and representatives from community-based organizations, city government entities, and healthcare providers. They work to improve mental health care for youth and families in Indianapolis by: elevating youth voices in violence prevention, promoting trauma-informed care for youth, and ensuring youth of all ages have access to skill development and employment.

With Vitality Funding, the MCYVPC hopes to improve mental health systems reform by proactively addressing the connection between mental health and violence, both self-harm and interpersonal, in Indianapolis.
