The staff of Mental Health America of Indiana and its subsidiary organizations are instrumental in accomplishing the goals of the organization. Without their dedication to and support of the organization, the good works could not continue. We thank the staff for their continued passion for the mission of the organization.
SB 552, Messmer (R-Jasper), the omnibus gaming bill, passed out of the House W&M Committee and now moves to the full House and then is expected to go to Conference Committee. MHAI was instrumental in adding language that would direct funding from sports betting to gambling addiction treatment.
Mental health in schools
Due to recent events, numerous bills have been filed dealing with school safety. Some focus on physical concerns, while others prioritize prevention and early intervention services as it relates to behavioral health. Certainly we know that students who are stressed, don’t feel safe or connected at home or school, or have difficulties managing their emotions do not learn and interact the same as other students who do. These students are also at higher risk for behavioral and disciplinary issues, bullying, substance use and dropping out of school.
