Steve McCaffrey

Steve earned his undergraduate degree from Purdue University and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis, and has been with MHAI since 1991. He is a recipient of the Webster-Kipfer Award for special achievement in public policy advocacy, a former Vice Chairman for Public Affairs and former member of the Board of Directors of the National Mental Health Association, and former Board Member of the American Society of Mental Health Association Professionals. He has been named to the National Directory of "Who's Who in Executives and Professionals" and by the Indiana Business Journal as a member of "Who's Who in Indiana Health Care." Steve has received gubernatorial appointments to the Indiana Mental Health Commission and the Medicaid Quality Advisory Committee. He currently serves as Chair of the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Advisory Committee.

Craig brings 30 years of person centered services to children, youth and adults with addictions, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and multiple challenges. Craig strives to bring resources and services in line with the needs of the people through Servant Leadership and partnerships with resources and services needed for recovery. Craig provides leadership, training, consultation and advocacy across the continuum of professional disciplines. As a trainer, educator and consultant, Craig has presented and published, at the international, national, regional and state levels. He is the 2005 recipient of the Heroes in the Fight Award presented by Eli Lilly and Mental Health America Indiana.

Julie has worked as a therapist in the community mental health field and school social work. She specializes in play therapy, behavioral modification, and the treatment of child abuse victims and their families.

Dr. Bob Burgbacher, Emberwood Center Executive Director, was President/CEO of the Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center in West Indianapolis for 27 years after pastoring for 17 years. He is a graduate of Indiana State University, Christian Theological Seminary ,Trinity University, and Indiana Christian University, He loves to travel, read and cook which fulfills his life as he enjoys helping clients.

Debra has provided services to and advocated for individuals with disabilities for over three decades. Debra was a therapist for 10 years, completed law school while working as a therapist, and continues serving individuals with disabilities through legal advocacy and representation. Debra earned her undergraduate degree at Indiana University, Bloomington and completed her Doctor of Jurisprudence at Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis. At MHAI, Debra is the Legal Director and Managed Health Services Ombudsman and has expanded MHAI’s advocacy program to include the provision of legal services to individuals affected by mental illness, addictions, or other disabilities.

Heather is the Assistant Director and Clinical Supervisor of the Indiana Center for Children and Families. Heather received a Masters of Social Work Degree from Indiana University and Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Indianapolis. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  Heather is specially trained in the treatment of adult relationships, parent education and families.  She brings valued experience in the areas of special needs, behaviorally disordered, and abused and neglected children, youth and adolescents.  Heather is also a credentialed mental health specialist and equine specialist, lending unique qualifications in experiential therapy to her clinical and leadership skills.

Ms. Elder has worked in the field as an Addictions Therapist for 12 years in the Indianapolis area. She has facilitated IOP, Relapse Prevention, Outpatient, and Women and Trauma/Recovery groups and individual sessions. Ms. Elder has served as an agency liaison with Greenwood Recovery Court, Department of Child Services, area Courts/Probation Departments, schools, EAPs, and other community organizations, in order to better support Clients’ recovery process and work together with other systems to ensure the highest level of Client care. At past agencies, she has served in roles as Addictions Therapist, Assistant Director, Director, and CEO.

Ms. Elder has presented workshops for CIRC and ICAADA on the topics of “Art Therapy and Addiction” and “Women and Trauma/Recovery”. She has developed processes and documentation within her agency to maintain good staff/client/referral source communication and adhere to State standards. Currently, she serves as the Clinical Specialist at EmberWood Center, ensuring quality assurance in all agency client records, providing ongoing training for clinical staff, facilitating clinical staff meetings, developing documentation and processes in adherence with current CARF/State standards, and maintaining quality assurance in DARMHA.

Jenna is a Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor and has a CADAC II certification. She has been with EmberWood Center since 2010. Jenna is the Assessment Specialist and works with the adolescent and adult clients facilitating assessments, group counseling, and individual sessions.

Meghan has been an employee of Community Connections since 2006. She started as a direct care staff, worked as a community consultant for several years and is currently job coaching individuals with both mental and physical disabilities. Meghan advocates for clients that have difficulty defending or speaking for themselves and helps them maintain their employment. Through her job related experiences Meghan has discovered how much she enjoys helping others and is currently pursuing her nursing degree.

She has worked in the social service field for over 15 years, with the majority of the time being spent in not- for- profit organizations. She has worked in the addictions field for over 10 years in some capacity. She enjoys spending time with her three children.

Kris has worked consistently in the field of clinical psychology since 1994, when her career began at Wishard’s in-patient units. Kris possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the Purdue School of Science. She has worked with both adult and adolescent psychiatric patients in acute, in-patient settings, and served as supervisor at a substance-abuse clinic in Indianapolis for seven years. Kris has been with MHAI since 2005, and serves as the statewide Mental Health and Addictions Ombudsman. The Mental Health Ombudsman is a statewide network of mental health professionals mandated by the Indiana General Assembly to advocate for the rights of persons with mental illness, chemical addictions, and their families.

Gloria is the Executive Director of the Indiana Center for Children and Families.  She served as the Interim Executive Director and Clinical Supervisor of the Indianapolis Institute for Families, Inc., where she was senior therapist for over twenty years.   Gloria has a social work degree from Goshen College and a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy degree from Butler University, with licensure in both areas.  Gloria's extensive experience with complex case of children traumatized by sexual and physical abuse, neglect, violence, intrafamilial homicide, special needs, and foster and adoptive families precedes her leadership roles.  Gloria looks forward to contributing her specialized knowledge and experience to advance the area of children's mental health and wellness, with the opening of the Indiana Center for Children and Families.

Lisa Hutcheson has been the director of the Indiana Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking since its inception in 1997. Advocating for stronger local and state policies and laws, the coalition is reducing youth access to alcohol. Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology and a Master of Education degree in counseling. She is also the Vice President of Policy and Programs for MHAI and part of the MHAI lobbying team. She supervises the Mental Health and Public Assistance Ombudsman programs, the Managed Care Ombudsman program, the Indiana Addiction Issues Coalition, and the Indiana Collegiate Action Network.

Pat has experience working in the inpatient and outpatient psychiatric hospital setting and crisis intervention with children, adolescents and adults. She is a parent educator for divorced parents. Pat specializes in working with adoptive parents, children of all ages and their families.

Mary’s graduate degree in Social Work is from Indiana University and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology is from Purdue University. Mary has worked with families in office settings as well as in home based counseling. Mary has practiced as a therapist for ten years with experience in therapy with victims of abuse and sexually maladaptive youth. Mary specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy, and family centered therapy for children and adolescents.

Tiffany is a Certified Mental Health Executive and also holds a QPR Certification in Suicide Prevention. Tiffany serves as the liaison to the Indiana Association for Infant and Toddler Mental Health; the liaison to the Mental Health and Aging Coalition; and the liaison to the Indiana Association of Substance Abuse Providers. In addition, Tiffany serves as the Director of Affiliate Relations and Public Education and also serves as the Special Events Coordinator.

Donald has over 20 years of experience in education, public assistance programs, case management and as a volunteer for many service organizations such as Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Donald’s role as Senior Director of Ombudsman Programs involves working with Ombudsman staff and the statewide network of chapters to respond to the needs of people who are experiencing difficulty accessing public assistance such as TANF (Temporary Assistance to Need Families), Snap Benefits (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) and Indiana Medicaid for health care services.

Michael Schrettenbrunner has over 18 years of experience in mental health and social services. Michael is a licensed Addiction Counselor, Licensed Social Worker and has a CADAC II certification. He has worked 14 years for the State of Indiana – Family and Social Service Administration in various positions. He spent three years working in a psychiatric hospital and one year working for the state (Indiana) prison system as a mental health counselor. He has been employed with The EmberWood Center since 2010.

Lisa was the 2005 Margaret Fairbairn Award recipient from the Indiana Rehabilitation Association for outstanding achievement as a rehabilitation professional having placed 26 clients in jobs that year. As an Employment Consultant Dylan helps job seekers find and maintain employment. As a Community Consultant he works with individuals, out in the community, on social goals to help them become more independent. Dylan is also a board member of the Depression Bipolar Support Alliance of Indiana (DBSAI) and manages the Friend Talk website and social networks.
